Father faces jail for giving cannabis oil to daughter with cancer

A father faces jail after giving his two-year-old daughter medical-grade cannabis oil as a cancer treatment.

The Australian man was arrested on 2 January for administering the oil to his daughter after she was diagnosed with stage 4 of rare, aggressive neuroblastoma on Christmas Eve, and was said to have a 50 per cent chance of survival.

He was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates’ Court over charges relating to the oil, which he claims gave “miraculous” results. He has been charged with possession of a dangerous drug and administering cannabis to a minor under the age of 16.

The toddler was reported to have an 11cm cancerous growth that was wrapped around her spine and put pressure on her internal organs. She was undergoing a course of chemotherapy as well as having been given the cannabis oil, which her father has said should be decriminalised in Australia.

The girl was being given morphine in hospital and struggled to breathe without help of machines, according to her father.

He wrote on Facebook: “What we saw when [my daughter] was given the medical cannabis oil was nothing short of miraculous.

“Her cancer ridden little body was alive again - [she] had almost instant quality of life - She would say- ‘Daddy, tummy is not sore’, she would be able to eat like a champion and began to gain weight, her energy was up and wanted to go outside with me instead of lay on her back with legs curled up. Her skin colour came back, her eyes were sparkling again, we looked at each other in complete amazement.

“[Her] delightful behaviour was restored. We were certain after seeing these results that her recovery was entirely possible.”
