A mother-of-two has plunged to her death in front of her husband and young children after attempting to be photographed at the edge of a 262ft cliff in Australia.

Police said Rosy Loomba, 38, fell on Saturday after climbing past safety barriers and warning signs at the Boroka Lookout in Grampians National Park, Victoria, to pose on the overhang.

Onlookers said they heard Loomba’s screams as she fell and that her husband and children were there to witness it.

The popular tourist site was closed to visitors following the incident at around 3pm, but was later opened following an hours-long retrieval of the body by rescue teams, Nine News reported.

Graham Wood, a local tour guide, told the news channel he had warned tourists against climbing to the edge of the cliff just 30 minutes before Loomba’s death.

“I made a comment to my customers, that this happens all the time,” he said in reference to people climbing past the barrier.

“And one of these days, someone's going to fall off. I'm sad that it's happened.”

One visitor said she had visited the lookout just a couple of hours earlier to take exactly the same photo on the overhang.

“I was devastated,” she said, cautioning future visitors to “follow the signs” and “don’t risk it if it’s going to risk your life”.

Following Loomba’s death, authorities warned the public to obey safety signs.

“We can't rope off every part of Victoria,” said police minister Lisa Neville. “People have to take responsibility.”
