A bar in Australia has been heavily criticised after hiring women to lie semi-naked on tables with fruit covering their body for a relaunch party.

Cruise Bar, in Circular Quay, Sydney, is accused of objectifying women with the stunt at a promotional event.

On their Instagram account, the bar posted a picture of the event and said: “Amazing night to officially launch to the public.”

Some users responded by saying the stunt was “degrading” and objectified women.

The bar, in the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal, declined to comment on the matter.

But many people have lambasted their actions and called for a boycott.

Melinda Tankard-Reist, co-founder of Collective Shout, told Daily Mail Australia: “I hope people decide to boycott Cruise Bar en masse for treating women like trays. It is part of the ongoing objectification of women to use them as serving trays and just part of the buffet."

“Someone has to tell this company it’s the 21st century and this is not appropriate. I hope they’re punished.”

Social media users echoed Tankard-Reist's comments, calling the display "unacceptable".
