Video: Cameraman carjacked at gunpoint moments after filming criminal's confession

Cameraman Peter Steer had been flagged down by the biker as he was on the way to the crime he had committed

The 45-year-old had said he wanted to turn himself into the police before stealing the Channel Seven car (Channel Seven)

An Australian news broadcaster has released footage of the moment when one of its cameramen had his car stolen at gunpoint, just moments after the perpetrator had made an on camera confession about another crime he had just committed.

Channel7 news cameraman Peter Steer was on his way to a property in which an alleged serious assault had taken place in the early hours of Thursday morning, when he was flagged down by a leather-clad biker named Jordy Brook telling Steer that he was the man guilty of the crime.

Steer said: “A chap on a Harley sort of pulled me over, I thought there might have been something wrong with my car. He got off his bike and approached me and said ‘I’ve got a story for you’.

“I said ‘Well mate, you better hurry because I’m going to a shooting’, and he said ‘Mate, I’m the shooter’.”

According to Steer, Brook, gave him the gun and said that he wanted to hand himself into the police.

Steer then filmed the biker confess to the crime, as he phoned the police to say that he was with the alleged criminal.

Police arrived on the scene and were able to restrain Brook at gunpoint.

The 45-year-old Brook has now been detained and will face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm and two counts of wilful damage.

Reflecting on the incident said that the confrontation hadn’t affected him too badly and that he was annoyed he hadn’t been more careful with his car.He told Fairfax Radio 4BC: “I'm fine. I keep telling people I just need a cigarette,” he

Adding: “I was very, very annoyed with myself. I should have locked the car up.

“My car is a write-off.”
