Ten people were killed and four injured today in a plane crash in Russia's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula, officials said.

The Antonov-28 plane crash-landed near the town of Palana in western Kamchatka, 4,200 miles east of Moscow, according to the emergencies ministry.

The two-engine turboprob aircraft had 14 people aboard, including two children and two crew members, a ministry statement said.

Local airport officials told the Interfax news agency that an engine malfunction was a possible cause of the crash.

The plane, belonging to the Petropavlovsko-Kamchatskaya airline, was flying from the regional capital of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana.
