A German court has charged a 94-year-old man with 3,681 counts of accessory to murder on allegations he served at a Nazi death camp.

Stefan Urbanek, a spokesman for prosecutors in the German city of Schwerin, said that the suspect – whose name was not released for legal reasons - was a former SS sergeant who served as a medic at a hospital run by the paramilitary unit in Auschwitz.

His lawyer, Peter-Michael Diestel, told the Bild newspaper there's no evidence of any "concrete criminal act" by his client.

Earlier this month it was revealed that a former Nazi death camp guard is to face trial in Germany in April, charged with at least 300,000 counts of accessory to murder.
