A bomb scare has prompted the evacuation of Bulgaria's largest airport.

Authorities shut part of Sofia Airport, in the country's capital, after an alert was raised about the suspicious vehicle today.

Footage shown on Kanal 3 television showed a bomb disposal robot handling luggage from a white van, which had reportedly been left in the airport's car park by a man who travelled to Belgium.

Police said no evidence of an explosive device was found but a spokesperson for the airport told Kanal 3 that a specialist sniffer dog on a routine patrol had reacted to the van, sparking further investigation.

Flights taking off and leaving the effected terminal were temporarily delayed while security checks were completed.
