At least two people have died in a plane crash in Savoy, France.

The two-seater plane crashed around 7.30 local time on the outskirts of Saint-Remy-de-Maurienne.

Christian Rochette, the local mayor, told France Bleu the small plane had just taken off from the airport at Saint-Remy-de-Maurienne before it hit a tree and crashed.

Last week, a Qatar Airways aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Istanbul after one of its engines caught fire following a bird strike.

Footage showed flames trailing from the Airbus A330's left engine as it came in to land.

Earlier this month, an Emirates plane burst into flames after crash landing at Dubai International Airport.

The blaze killed a firefighter.
