Police have ruled reports that two armed men were holed up in a Barcelona restaurant after a terror attack in the city which killed at least one and injured dozens of others.

Local media reports had suggested the perpetrators of the van attack on civilians in Las Ramplas may have been holding hostages inside the restaurant.

Police said at the time that they were still searching for the man who was driving the van, which drove into one of the busiest squares in the city centre.

Catalan authorities later said they had arrested one suspect in relation to the incident.

Catalan authorities say at least 13 people have died in the attack, and many more are injured.
