A 5.3-magnitude earthquake rattled central Serbia overnight, killing at least two people and injuring 50.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck 75 miles south of the Serbian capital, Belgrade, early today.

Media reports said the hardest hit area was around the town of Kraljevo.

State TV reported the earthquake destroyed or damaged buildings and left parts of the town without electricity, running water or telephone lines.

Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said a couple died in a Kraljevo suburb when their house collapsed, while 50 people were injured.

The earthquake was also felt in a wider area of Serbia including the capital.
