Israeli forces kill Palestinian at Gaza Strip border fence

A Palestinian hospital official has claimed Israeli forces shot and killed a man at the border fence with the Gaza Strip.

The official said the 23-year-old died early on Monday of wounds sustained earlier. He spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

It was not immediately clear if the man was a civilian. The area is frequently used by militants to fire rockets at nearby Jewish communities.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said their forces shot the man after he ignored warning shots as he sneaked toward the border. She spoke anonymously citing military regulations.

Israeli forces and Palestinian militants have clashed occasionally in the past few months in the Gaza border region.
