Leeds bus stop rape: Police release new footage showing suspect with 'distinctive walk' on way to crime scene

Detectives have trawled through CCTV from the area nearby the attack to track down possible suspects and witnesses

Police investigating the attempted murder and serious sexual assault of a young woman in Leeds have released new CCTV footage of a suspect walking to the crime scene.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was attacked as she waited at a bus stop in Beeston Road at around 10.50pm on Friday 6 March.

She was dragged into a nearby garden and struck over the head with a rock before being sexually assaulted.

The attack left her with serious head injuries and a broken hip.

Last week, harrowing footage was released with the consent of the victim as part of ongoing work to identify the suspect.

The man is described as in his early 20s, slim, and of Pakistani or Middle Eastern origin with a receding black hair line.

He was wearing dark clothing and possibly a light blue hooded sweatshirt during the attack.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said of the new footage: "It should help to build a more detail picture of this man and his movements in the moments leading up to the attack.

"One thing that stands out from the new footage is that the man has a very distinctive walk, possibly a limp.

"I want people to think about whether these various elements match anyone they may have seen in the area or if they have any suspicions about someone they know."

As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives have trawled through CCTV from the area nearby the attack, and say that it is clear from the footage that there were a number of people around at the time.

They are keen to trace one woman who was seen boarding a number one bus bound for Leeds and man who was with her, as well as another man was seen running along Beeston Road and onto Parkfield Avenue.
