Specialist London renting blog rentonomy took a sample of two bedroom properties within 1km of each ground to make its assessment.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea tops the list, with average rents of £454 per week around Stamford Bridge. Next is Fulham where average rents are £338 per week (both Stamford Bridge and Craven Cottage are technically in Fulham (SW6) although Stamford Bridge is closer to 'prime Chelsea.').

"Next is Arsenal at £330, " says rentonomy director David Butler. "Although Highbury is pretty swanky, rents are a bit lower because 1km from the stadium also encompasses Lower Holloway which is more affordable.

"Queens Park Rangers are at number four with £284, with Loftus Road up in Shepherds Bush. When we first did this analysis, we used a 2km radius which put QPR at number one because that captured Notting Hill and Kensington."

Brentford, in Hounslow, is next on the list (£277) followed by Millwall with rents at £234 per week. Like Arsenal (formerly at Woolwich) Millwall moved from Canary Wharf to Bermondsey just before the First World War.

"Cheaper clubs to rent near, between £200 and £209 per week, are Tottehnam, West Ham and Leyton Orient," adds Butler. "These clubs are all in 'inner city' parts of London. But the cheapest of all London clubs to rent near are Charlton Athletic at £197 at and Crystal Palace at £193 as they are further out from the centre of London where there is less pressure on space.
