Batsman of the day

The international career that Jimmy Adams once had in mind may have passed him by but the Hampshire captain remains a dangerous opponent, as Worcestershire discovered when the 32-year-old left-hander carried his bat for 219 in a total of 500 for 9 declared at the Rose Bowl. It was the third double-hundred of Adams' career and his highest score since his career-best 262 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in 2006.

Bowler of the day

Chris Jordan, released by Surrey to join Sussex after five increasingly frustrating and injury-hit years at The Oval, picked up five wickets against his former team-mates – and on their own patch, for good measure.

Extras

Alviro Petersen's prolific start to his Somerset career continued against Warwickshire, where Graeme Smith's opening partner in the South Africa side completed his second century in three innings.
