England's women seal victory in Twenty20 series

England's women wrapped up a Twenty20 series victory by beating their Australian counterparts by four wickets in Canberra yesterday. It was their third successive victory in the five-match series and clinched a first-ever series win Down Under.

Lydia Greenway again played a key part for the tourists, with 23 off 22 balls before she was caught by Alex Blackwell off Rene Farrell in the final over. Jenny Gunn finished unbeaten on 10 as England secured the win with a ball to spare.

England's innings was given the ideal start by their captain Charlotte Edwards and Laura Marsh, who put on 71. Edwards made 36 and Marsh 45, an innings that earned her the player of the match award. Earlier, Australia had posted 145 for 6 from their 20 overs. Opener Meg Lanning top-scored for the hosts with 34 off 22 balls while Isa Guha was the star of England's attack as she took 3 for 24.

There are two Twenty20 internationals remaining, in Canberra today and tomorrow, with one Test match to follow.

Edwards, who led the side to victory in the World Cup on Australian soil in 2009, said: "I'm absolutely over the moon to win today and to win our first limited-overs series in Australia is very special. We upped our game on a very good pitch and again batted exceptionally well.

"I'm very proud of the whole squad. Everyone has contributed throughout the last three games."
