Eye on the County Championship: We will be targeting Jonathan Trott to see where he's at

Look out: Jonathan Trott will be in Sussex’s sights after Ashes problems

Whoever you bowl against in Championship cricket you will try to target their best players because if you can put scars on them along the way you know it will help your team's cause. Naturally, in the Warwickshire game this week, one guy we will be targeting is Jonathan Trott. We would do that anyway, whatever the circumstances. Along with Ian Bell, he is one of their best batsmen.

He has had a tough winter in Australia. We know that he has not played a lot of cricket lately. For sure we will be looking to target him and put him under pressure. If we can get into the openers and get him in early, then we will find out where he is at.

And we will have Chris Jordan back in our side for the first time this season. Even on a flat wicket he can bowl at 90mph and put it up people. He has that factor that can make a difference on any kind of surface, an extra yard of pace compared with most of the guys on the circuit and that means he can come up with wicket-taking balls in any conditions.

He adds another dimension to our bowling and having Ashar Zaidi in the side gives us a balance that creates the option to bowl four quicks, which we haven't had the last two summers. It means you can keep rotating the quicker bowlers in short spells, to keep them fresh.

Chris will probably be a bit nervous. He has great aspirations to get in the Test side this summer, so he will want to start well. He comes in off the back of playing 50-over cricket and the World T20, with all the slower balls and yorkers, and he will need to get back into the rhythm of four-day cricket. But he is very professional in his preparation and pays great attention to detail, so anything he can do to be ready he will have done.

Warwickshire are a strong team, one of those you will always draw a circle around when you are looking at who will be in title contention because they are always competitive. But we played pretty much a complete game batting and bowling on what was a tricky surface to beat Middlesex last week. To put close to 400 on the board after bowling them out for around a hundred first innings was a great effort by our guys. We see ourselves as contenders too.
