Somerset and Surrey reached the final of the Clydesdale Bank final yesterday. Somerset beat Durham in a rain-affected match at Taunton, while Surrey beat Sussex by 71 runs at The Oval.

At Taunton, the Duckworth-Lewis method awarded the hosts a well-warranted 39-run victory. Durham, batting first, were bowled out for 219 in 38.5 overs. The visitors had been swiftly reduced to 44 for 4 after incisive opening spells from Steve Kirby and Peter Trego, and a sharp run-out from mid-off by Chris Jones. Ian Blackwell and Dale Benkenstein led a cautious revival, putting on 85 between them. Benkenstein added 71 for the seventh wicket with England youngster Scott Borthwick, but the South African was out for 85, and the hosts were set 220 to win.

A confident innings of 57 from Arul Suppiah, with able support from Jones, who scored 33, and Trego, who hit an unbeaten 40, took Somerset to 165 for 3 in 27 overs. When the rain came, they were 39 runs ahead of the D-L par score to clinch a place in the final.

Rain also affected the other semi-final at The Oval. It was reduced to 24 overs for each side and Surrey, batting first, scored an impressive 228 for 7. Tom Maynard top-scored with 60 from 33 deliveries, while Zander de Bruyn scored 43 from 28.

In response, Sussex were bowled out for 157, with only three batsmen reaching double figures. Chris Schofield took four wickets, and Gareth Batty and Matthew Spriegel took two each. Surrey and Durham will contest the final at Lord's on 17 September.
