Daniel Vettori officially ended his tenure as New Zealand's Test captain yesterday, though he will lead the one-day side in the upcoming World Cup.

The 31-year-old Vettori had already said several times since he took on the captaincy from Stephen Fleming in November 2007 that he would step down after the tournament.

"I made that decision three and a half years ago and that's it," Vettori said after New Zealand and Pakistan drew the second Test at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, which meant the visitors won the series 1-0.

Vettori wants to continue playing Test cricket under a new leader, likely to be Ross Taylor.
