Bradley Wiggins set to lead Team Sky on Tour of Britain

The Tour de France and Olympic time-trial winner missed last year's race due to a stomach complaint

Sir Bradley Wiggins will star at the head of a strong Team Sky squad in the Tour of Britain which begins in Peebles on Sunday, September 15.

The Tour de France and Olympic time-trial winner missed last year's race due to a stomach complaint but is relishing the chance to get back on his home roads.

Wiggins told Team Sky's official website: "I'm really looking forward to the Tour of Britain - it's a race I'm fond of and it's nice to see it growing in stature each year.

"The crowds and the roads make it special and it's always very humbling to see the fantastic support that we get from the public.

"I'm coming into the race feeling really good. It finishes in close proximity to the World Time Trial Championships which is my main late-season goal."

The 33-year-old Wiggins will form part of a six-man Team Sky squad that includes two other fellow Britons, Ian Stannard and Josh Edmondson.

Wiggins will hope to use his home tour to get back on track after a disappointing year which saw him forced to withdraw midway through the Giro d'Italia due to a knee injury.

The injury prevented Wiggins defending his Tour de France title but he returned in the Tour de Pologne in July, winning the stage seven time-trial.
