Tour de France 2014: History maker Daryl Impey dropped from team after failing drug test

The first African to wear the Tour's yellow jersey has tested positive for the masking agent Probenecid

Daryl Impey, the first African to wear the Tour de France’s yellow jersey, has been left out of the Orica GreenEdge squad for the Tour de France after testing positive for the masking agent Probenecid at the South African Championships back in February.

The positive test has left the door open for Simon Yates, who will line up in Yorkshire on Saturday as one of four British riders in the race.

The news comes just after it was revealed that Alberto Contador’s top domestique Roman Kreuziger will be absent owing to irregularities in his blood passport dating back to the Czech rider’s time at Astana in 2011 and 2012.

Last year Impey took the yellow jersey from team-mate Simon Gerrans after the stage-six sprint into Montpellier, and held it for two days.
