The news Manchester United fans had been waiting for. Wayne Rooney will start for the club tonight in their crucial Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Rooney had picked up a toe injury in the first leg, which ended 1-1 at Old Trafford last week and missed the 4-0 victory at Newcastle on Saturday.

David Moyes has picked an attacking line-up, with Shinji Kagwa and Danny Welbeck also starting. United, of course, have to score to progress.

Man United: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick; Valencia, Rooney, Kagawa; Welbeck. Subs: Lindegaard, Büttner, Ferdinand, Giggs, Januzaj, Young, Hernandez.

Bayern: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Kroos; Robben, Muller, Gotze, Ribery; Mandzukic. Subs: Raeder (gk), Van Buyten, Rafinha, Pizarro, Weihrauch, Wieser, Hojbjerg.
