Borussia's departure is delayed by speeding bus driver

Borussia Dortmund's departure to Marseilles for their Champions League game against the Ligue 1 side tonight was delayed by about 50 minutes yesterday when their bus driver was stopped for speeding, the club said.

The team was on their way to the airport when the bus driver went through a 30kph zone at a speed of 45kph and police stopped the vehicle to hand out a speeding ticket.

Midfielder Mario Goetze said: "We wondered what happened but it was amusing."

German champions Dortmund take on Marseilles in their second Group F game after drawing 1-1 at home against Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Schalke have appointed Dutchman Huub Stevens, who had coached the Bundesliga club from 1996 to 2002, to replace Ralf Rangnick after he stepped down last week citing exhaustion, the club said.

The 57-year-old Stevens, who led Schalke to their 1997 Uefa Cup victory and two German Cups in 2001 and 2002 as well as a second place in the Bundesliga in 2001, has signed a contract through to June 2013.

Stevens, who holds the Schalke record for the longest coaching stint at five years and nine months, has also coached Cologne, Hamburg SV and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga as well as Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and Austria's Salzburg.

Rangnick resigned suddenly last week after only six months in charge, saying he was suffering from exhaustion and needed a break.

Further east, former Russia goalkeeper Stanislav Cherchesov has been appointed coach of Chechen club Terek Grozny, the Russian Premier League side said yesterday.

Cherchesov, who had been out of work since his last club Zhemchuzhina Sochi folded last month because of financial problems, has signed a two-year contract, Terek said on their website.

The 48-year-old replaces Isa Baltiyev, who was named the club's caretaker coach following the sacking of Dutchman Ruud Gullit in June.

Since retiring as a player in 2002, Cherchesov has held various coaching jobs including a one-year stint at Spartak Moscow, who sacked him in 2008 following a string of poor results.

Terek, run by Chechnya's Kremlin-backed leader Ramzan Kadyrov, are 11th in the 16-team Premier League midway through the season.
