Pep Guardiola will be hoping to extend his fine record against Real Madrid when his Bayern Munich team meet the Spaniards in the final four of the Champions League.

Under his previous guise of Barcelona coach, Guardiola consistantly proved a thorn in the side of rivals Real. Of his 15 matches in all competitions as manager against Real, Guardiola lost twice, with nine victories.

In league matches alone, Guardiola won six out of eight La Liga matches against Real, losing only once.

In addition to Guardiola, Bayern also prevailed over Real the last time the teams met, in the semi-finals in 2012. The tie ended 3-3 on aggregate after the two legs before Munich triumphed 3-1 on penalties.

It was in that shoot-out that Cristiano Ronaldo, the current holder of the Fifa Ballon d'Or, saw his penalty saved by Manuel Neuer. Sergio Ramos also missed before Bastian Schweinsteiger converted the decisive spot-kick.

Real will be at home to Bayern in the first leg on 23 April. The second leg will be played on 29 April.

Should Chelsea progress from their semi-final against Atletico Madrid, they have history with both Bayern and Real.

Jose Mourinho could face his former team Real, who he won the 2012 La Liga title with, while the Blues of course defeated Bayern in the final of the competition, also in 2012.
