Hail began to fall during the match and a red ball was brought on as the players struggled with visibility. The pitch was completely covered and Portuguese referee Pedro Proenca ordered both teams off to allow the lines to be cleared. However, the match was called off after a 20-minute break. The score was 0-0 at the time and Roberto Mancini's side should replay against Juve tonight.

In Manchester United's group, Bayer Leverkusen went through at Shakhtar Donetsk's expense thanks to a 1-0 win at Real Sociedad.

Olympiakos are also in the last 16 after a 3-1 win over Anderlecht, Javier Saviola scoring twice for the Greeks.
