Petr Cech

Held crosses comfortably in the first half and made two low sharp saves as Valencia pushed in the second half. 7/10

Jose Bosingwa

Possibly cavalier: many of Valencia's moves came from his flank, but his own advances were usually useful. 6

David Luiz

Did not play his natural game, rarely carrying the ball out far from the back. Did not always look wholly comfortable. 5

John Terry

Had to be alert to Roberto Soldado's near post movement, but was, making some important interceptions. 7

Ashley Cole

An important source of width in the final third, even coming inside at times. Had an examination from Hernandez. 6

John Obi Mikel

Struggled with the movement around him of Sergio Canales, but when on the ball he rarely gifted it away. 5

Frank Lampard

Scored Chelsea's goal with a sharp finish from the edge of the box. Completed more passes than any team-mate. 7

Ramires

His energy and pace gave Chelsea much of their dynamism, but he missed an easy one-on-one and was taken off. 5

Juan Mata

Not quite as influential on his return to Valencia as Chelsea might have hoped, though his movement improved. 5

Fernando Torres

Might have won a penalty early on. Otherwise a quiet first half, but good movement produced two chances. 6

Florent Malouda

Brought back into the side, he, like Mata, could not always provide Fernando Torres with the service he needs. 5

Best off the bench

Nicolas Anelka (for Torres, 72): Ran the channels in the final 20 minutes, but missed one excellent chance. 5
