Internazionale have been fined €50,000 (£43,200) after a section of fans racially abused Milan striker Mario Balotelli during Sunday night's Milan derby, Serie A have confirmed.

The former Manchester City and Inter striker was subjected to "racially discriminatory chants" by a section of Nerazzurri fans at San Siro, while several supporters were seen waving inflatable bananas towards him. Balotelli has also been fined €10,000 (£8,600) for directing a vulgar gesture at the Inter fans.

Meanwhile, John Carew, who was released by West Ham last summer, could be a surprise addition to the Inter squad due to an injury crisis among their strikers.
