Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund match report: Carlos Tevez looks no dummy after putting Juve in control
Juventus 2 Borussia Dortmund 1
Carlos Tevez had a hand in both goals for Juventus as they overcame a blunder by Giorgio Chiellini to take a narrow lead to Dortmund in their last-16 tie.
Tevez opened the scoring for the home side after an intense spell of pressure from the visitors.
Juventus broke away on the counter attack and Alvaro Morata’s shot was spilled by the visiting goalkeeper, Roman Weidenfeller, leaving the ball for the Argentine striker to tap in his 20th goal of the season. He pulled a baby’s dummy from his shorts to put in his mouth for his goal celebration.
But Juve’s lead lasted only five minutes and it was a slip from Giorgio Chiellini that let in Marco Reus for his fourth goal in his many games – and prompted the Dortmund coach, Jürgen Klopp, to punch the air in triumph.
Juventus’s night looked to be getting worse when their talismanic playmaker Andrea Pirlo hobbled off with injury just after the half-hour.
Chances fell to both sides in the opening half – Morata going close with a first-half header and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s dipping effort for Dortmund forcing a save from Gianluigi Buffon – as the match played out before an intense atmosphere.
Then Morata got on the end of Paul Pogba’s cross – the Frenchman having been provided by Tevez, following his barrelling run up the field – and side-footed into the net from 10 yards out.
Tevez and Morata went close to increasing Juventus’s lead in the second half.
