Manchester United team news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer missing 10 players for PSG trip with Anthony Martial out

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is unlikely to risk Martial, despite United's injury problems

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not expect any of Manchester United's injured players to recover in time to play in their decisive Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

United travel to Paris on Tuesday with a 2-0 deficit and a mountain to climb if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

Worse still, Solskjaer will be without as many as 10 first-team players at the Parc des Princes due to either injury or suspension.

Alexis Sanchez became the latest casualty on Saturday, suffering an apparent knee ligament injury in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton.

Solskjaer will be more concerned about the absences of Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic, who have all recently succumbed to muscle injuries.

Anthony Martial is the final stage of recovery from a groin problem but is yet to return to training, while Juan Mata is sidelined with a hamstring problem.

In defence, United are missing Phil Jones (illness), Matteo Darmian (knock) and club captain Antonio Valencia (calf).

And though Paul Pogba is fit, he will serve a one-match ban against PSG after receiving a red card in the final minutes of the first leg three weeks ago.

Speaking after Saturday’s win at Old Trafford, Solskjaer confirmed that he does not expect any positive news before travelling to Paris and that Martial would not be risked.

But the United caretaker manager is a veteran of several great European nights in the club’s history and believes his players can harness this history and use it in their favour.

“For our players, they know what we are capable of and we have spoken about it,” he said on Saturday.

“They know that they are part of a special club that can do something like this. We are not going to go there and lay down. We are going to give it a go.

“We have got to go for it. We have a mountain to climb. We have quality players. Let’s see how many we have got it though. That maybe is the biggest thing.”

Solskjaer added: “The belief is here now, I have to say. They are confident going into the game knowing that we are 2-0 down.

“We know it is going to be difficult, we played them here and they are a good team, and we have got loads of injuries. There’s a few boys here that will want to be part of it.”
