Manchester City will head into their crunch Champions League group game against Roma without Sergio Aguero.

City must win and then rely on CSKA Moscow to lose at the Allianz Arena, although a score-draw will also be enough.

The Argentine striker, who has 19 goals in 21 matches for City in all competitions this season, is out for eight weeks after picking up a knee injury against Everton at the weekend.

Edin Dzeko or Stevan Jovetic, who has also been struggling with an injury, will replace Aguero up front but the pair have just four goals each this season with Dzeko not finding the net since back-to-back games against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull in September.

There is some good news for Manuel Pellegrini, however, with inspirational captain Vincent Kompany likely to return to shore up the defence; Kompany has not played since the impressive win at Southampton.

David Silva also trained with the first team in Italy and could make a long-awaited return. The Spaniard has not played since the Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle on 29 October, missing eight games in total.

Fernandinho will return after suspension but Yaya Toure is still missing after the red card he picked up against CSKA Moscow.
