Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Manchester City: Pep Guardiola's side discover European form to reignite title ambitions

Manchester City made light work of Shakhtar Donetsk in their 3-0 victory in Ukraine to kick-start their Champions League ambitions.

Kevin De Bruyne, who made his first start of the season, saw a deflected shot turned in by David Silva to open the scoring and ease any nerves that Pep Guardiola’s may have been feeling following their defeat against Lyon and their slim, last minute win against Hoffenheim.

Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva scored either side of the break as City topped Group F following Lyon’s draw against Hoffenheim.

The focus was on Ronaldo tonight but it was Dybala, and Juventus' sturdy defence, earning the plaudits. The Portuguese did, however, need the help of security when a fan appeared to rush at him immediately after the final whistle. The reception from the fans, though, was positive.

A win for Juventus in the return fixture in Turin will be enough for them to win Group H with two games to spare. For United, qualification is still not secure, although they were helped by Valencia's draw at Young Boys earlier this evening. What is clear is that improvements will be needed if Mourinho's side are to advance into the latter stages of the Champions League.
