Pep Guardiola is going home.

After spending seven years at the famed academy, 11 years in the first team, a year as the B team boss and four years in charge of the arguably the best team football has ever seen, Guardiola will meet Barcelona as an opponent for the first time.

Bayern Munich were drawn against Barcelona in the semi-final of the Champions League and the Spanish manager has every reason to be confident.

Guardiola joined the Barcelona academy as a 12-year-old in 1983 and as a player the former Spanish international won six Spanish titles, one European Cup, the Copa del Rey twice and the Cup Winners' Cup - in 11 years he went on to captain the club and played more than 350 games.

After leaving to play in Italy and then the Middle East he returned to Barcelona B and also won the league there.

He took over from Frank Rijkaard in 2007 and in his four years in charge at the Nou Camp, Guardiola built one of the most dominant teams in football history, helping the side to the Spanish title in three of his four seasons as well as winning the Champions League twice and recording a treble in 2009.

In fact, Guardiola won an unprecedented 14 major honours in his spell in charge that included the Copa del Rey twice and the Club World Cup twice.

Lionel Messi developed into the best player in the world under his guidance, winning three consecutive Ballon d'Or awards as he scored 211 goals in 219 games under Guardiola's tutelage.

Now in charge at Bayern Munich, Guardiola has an even better record in Germany than he did as a manager in Spain. The 44-year-old celebrated his 100th match in charge of Bayern on Tuesday, when his side overcame a 3-1 first leg deficit to smash Porto 6-1.

He has only lost 11 games so far as Bayern boss, winning 77 - higher than the 72 per cent win percentage he achieved in his 247 matches as Barcelona manager.

Not only will Barcelona have the Pep factor to deal with, but they have a terrible historical record against the German giants.

The two sides have met only eight times in their storied histories, a surprisingly low number, but Barcelona have just managed one win in that time, losing six.

The last time the two sides met as at the semi-final stage of the Champions League in 2013 - the season that Bayern went on to win the treble after posting an incredible 7-0 aggregate win that included a dominant 3-0 win for the Germans in the Nou Camp.

Watch out Barca.
