AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has suggested playmaker Ronaldinho will be handed a new contract in the near future.

The Brazilian has regained top form for the Rossoneri in recent times and Berlusconi is thought to be interested in keeping the former Barcelona sensation at the San Siro.

With his current contract coming to an end in June, the supremo is hopeful that new terms will be thrashed out in the coming weeks.

"Will there be an extension? I think so, yes. We have spoken about it recently," he said.

Mean while, former Napoli great Diego Maradona could be elected as the club's honorary president, according to president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Argentina World Cup winner joined the Naples-based outfit in 1984 from Barcelona and helped them land the Serie A title in 1987 and 1990.

His influence at Stadio San Paolo resulted in him becoming a firm favourite and De Laurentiis has suggested he will be offered the honour.

"Maradona is a legend of football and it would be right to honour him," De Laurentiis told Canale 21 Campania Sport. "I hope he can resolve his Italian tax problems so that he can come to Napoli freely.

"We made a film together some years ago. I think I will go and find him in Argentina to speak about football."
