Swansea City 4 Malmo 0 match report: Wilfried Bony quick to find his range in Europa League qualifier
The new signing already looks an astute purchase
Michael Laudrup looks to have discovered the perfect support act for striker Michu as Swansea took a positive first step in Europa League qualifying by beating the Swedish side Malmo 4-0 at home.
Last season Michu scored 22 goals and he continued where he left off with Swansea's first of this season. And the Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony, a £12m signing from Vitesse Arnhem, also struck twice.
Malmo are halfway through their domestic season and scored seven against Hibernian at Easter Road last week but they came to stifle Swansea in this first leg and succeeded for half an hour. However, an unfortunate slip let in Michu, who gave Swansea the lead at the interval.
The home side then opened up a greater advantage during five bizarre second-half minutes. Malmo had a strong penalty claim waved away shortly before new signing Jonjo Shelvey combined with Ben Davies and the scintillating Wayne Routledge for Bony to leap highest and head home.
Bony followed up after Michu had glided on to Angel Rangel's clever pass only to hit the post. The Ivorian turned provider for substitute Alejandro Pozuelo to make it four.
