A Marseille player got only a brief run-out on Saturday after collecting two yellow cards within two minutes of coming on as a substitute.

Ghanaian Jordan Ayew replaced Mathieu Valbuena in the 73rd minute of his side's match against relegation-threatened Evian Thonon Gaillard.

The 21-year-old then quickly set about putting in bookable fouls, the first coming in the 74th minute.

The second, in the 75th, was a recklessly late follow through on Evian defender Pavel Ninkovic.

Hitting out at Ayew after the game, Marseille coach Elie Baup told French channel beIN Sport: "When you already received a yellow card, you have to take care and behave."

Ayew's departure left his side down to nine men, taking them to three sendings off from the last two games. Controversial English midfielder Joey Barton was sent off against Nancy last week.

The game ended 1-1, with Andre-Pierre Gignac put Marseille in front with a superb half-volley in the 50th minute. But Yannick Sagbo levelled for the hosts from the penalty spot nine minutes later.

Marseille are now third in Ligue 1, eight point short of leaders Paris St Germain, having been level top with their feirce rivals only five games ago.
