Ander Herrera reveals daily reminder at Manchester United about importance of FA Cup

The Spaniard is excited about making his debut in the competition

Ander Herrera has revealed that he and his Manchester United team-mates are reminded of the importance of the FA Cup on a daily basis thanks to a reminder at the club's training ground.

The Spanish midfielder, who joined from Athletic Bilbao over the summer, will make his debut in the competition early next month. Yeovil will be the opponents in the Third Round after the West Country team beat Accrington last night.

United will be keen to make a serious challenge for the trophy having failed to win it since beating Millwall in the 2004 final. With no European football this season and an embarrassing exit from the Capital One Cup against MK Dons, Louis van Gaal's side might be able to salvage something from the season with a run in the FA Cup.

Herrera is hopeful that can be the case.

"I have seen on the walls at the Carrington training ground how many times we have won the FA Cup," the midfielder said.

"It’s an important competition for United but all the competitions are important for the club because we always want to win everything."

Herrera went on to explain the differences between the FA Cup and its equivalent in Spain, suggesting he prefers the format of the English tournament.

"It's different to the Spanish Cup because it's more about the knockout situation," he told Inside United.

"In Spain we play two legs in the Cup, so I think it’s good that it can be down to just one game here, it makes it very emotional. So I like the FA Cup and when I was in Spain I always watched it.

"It's a very interesting competition. Every team has a chance to win it, which is good. I want to play in this competition and it’s a big chance for us to win a cup.

"I think all the supporters can feel that excitement and some nerves for the game on the day. It's a very important competition. Last season Arsenal won it and this season we want to be in the final."
