Arsenal goalscorer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has welcomed the “confidence boost” that victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup will have given the side before Wednesday's game against Bayern Munich.

Much has been made about a deadly run of fixtures for the Gunners that involves games against Liverpool and the German champions.

They couldn't have got off to a worse start when they were beaten 5-1 at Anfield in the Premier League.

But victory today in the FA Cup, in which Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring, is a result that the England international hopes will put his team in the right frame of mind.

"We have got a massive game (against Bayern Munich) on Wednesday and this win is a confidence boost," he said.

Speaking about the importance of getting revenge over Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: "Especially after the result away, we knew we had to turn it around and put in a display.

"My goal got us off to a good start. We did well to keep it together and hold on."

Luis Suarez should arguably have been awarded a second penalty for a challenge by Oxlade-Chamberlain with the score at 2-1, a decision which referee Howard Webb waved away.

"There are penalty shouts in most games," said Oxlade-Chamberlain. "You just have to worry about the ones that are given and thankfully that one didn't."
