FA Cup Round-Up: Fleetwood and Luton show league quality to cause upsets

Fleetwood Town pulled off one of the shocks of the FA Cup first round as they beat League One side Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 on Saturday, despite playing half the game with 10 men.

Andy Mangan opened the scoring for the Blue Square Premier team after 25 minutes and, even though Richard Brodie was dismissed before the interval, Jamie Vardy – who was watched by several Championship scouts – found the net with 10 minutes remaining.

Fleetwood's fifth-tier rivals Luton were another non-league club to defeat Football League opposition as they prevailed 1-0 at home to Northampton, substitute Adam Watkins scoring the winner.

Plymouth Argyle avoided a major upset as they twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with Evo-Stik League Southern Premier club Stourbridge. League Two Plymouth were 2-1 down before Carl Fletcher equalised but Stourbridge went ahead again with Sean Gebbis's late penalty. Despite Robbie Williams and Conor Hourihane being sent off, Plymouth managed to force a replay when Onismor Bhasera scored at the death.

Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury, meanwhile, expressed regret that his League One team failed to hold on to a two-goal lead after they drew 3-3 with Gillingham. Bournemouth were 3-1 ahead with 19 minutes left before their goalkeeper, Darryl Flahavan, let in Danny Jackman's low drive for the League Two side and Danny Kedwell's late effort secured a replay. Bradbury said: "I don't think it was easy out there for goalkeepers, which may have accounted for one or two of the mistakes, but I was disappointed."
