Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho cut a frustrated figure after being forced off early in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City.

The 26-year-old centre-back clashed heads with team-mate Emre Can after a quarter of an hour and, although both players rose to their feet, the France international looked shaky from then on.

Sakho played on for another ten minutes until Liverpool’s physios insisted that he had to removed from the field as a precaution against concussion.

Jurgen Klopp could be seen explaining to Sakho why he could not continue, though the German’s arguments did little to placate his player.

The former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, understandably frustrated by his misfortune, threw his bottle at the ground shortly after speaking with Klopp and could then be seen with a coat over his head as he sat on the bench.

Kolo Toure replaced Sakho to partner Lucas Leiva at the centre of Liverpool’s defence.
