Birmingham look to make amends

Birmingham striker Marlon King has welcomed a quick return to action as his side look to move on from Saturday's failure to beat Peterborough when they host Burnley tomorrow night.

Blues have three games in hand on most of their npower Championship rivals but have the chance to gain some ground against the Clarets.

Chris Hughton's side head into the game keen to return to winning ways after going three league games without a victory, with Saturday's 1-1 draw against Posh particularly frustrating.

King had put the hosts a goal up in the first half but Grant McCann's superb free-kick salvaged a point for the visitors and the City striker admits they only had themselves to blame.

"We're still unbeaten at home and anybody that comes to St Andrew's knows they've been in a game," he told his club's website, bcfc.com.

"We were very positive in the first half and had a lot of attacking options and we were also solid at the back. We got in a lot of times and that's when we should have punished them.

"It came back to bite us, but that's football and we learn from it.

"The gaffer said his words and the boys know we're better than what we showed in the second half.

"But there's another game on Tuesday so we can't dwell on it and we will take out the positives.

"There is a lot of quality in our side, but we'd like to turn these draws into wins."

King and his team-mates are up against a floundering Burnley side who have lost their last three matches, culminating in Saturday's home defeat by Leeds.

On-loan striker Sam Vokes, however, sees reasons for optimism despite the Clarets sitting fourth from bottom in the table.

"I know it's a strong side here," he told burnleyfootballclub.com.

"I've worked with Eddie (Howe, manager) before and a few of the lads and we have to take the positives from the Leeds match. With a couple of wins we can get out of this."

Birmingham are without midfielders Morgaro Gomis and Jordon Mutch for the match while Burnley's Charlie Austin suffered a dislocated shoulder on Saturday.

Tomorrow's other Championship match sees second-bottom Coventry host fourth-placed Cardiff at the Ricoh Arena.

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is particularly pleased with the form of winger Peter Whittingham after the former Aston Villa youngster's goalscoring contribution in Saturday's win over Reading.

"Whitts has always had a talent on the ball," said the Scot. "But I'm also delighted with the amount of tackles he is making and second balls that he's picking up."
