Blackpool have distanced themselves from the Twitter account that sent an offensive message to a fan.

The account named @CommercialBFC, which was later deleted, was involved in a back-and-forth with one fan who was unhappy with the state of the Bloomfield Road pitch after a Neil Diamond concert held three week’s before.

Having pledged to give them £20 if the pitch was anywhere near a satisfactory condition, the user was later advised to send it to the Gary Parkinson Trust, a charity that set up for the former Blackpool player and coach.

When the fan replied saying they would make the payment anyway, the account responded with an abusive message that read: "if you don't think its upto it don't bother, but that wasn't the agreement, but as usual you've been proven wrong and need to" "back track, typical a**ehole w**kers!!!"

Having been posted early on Sunday morning, the messages remained up for hours before the League One club deactivated the account.

In a statement released by Blackpool, the club said: "The club has been made aware of comments emanating from a Twitter account overnight that has previously advertised commercial opportunities.

"This account has not been utilised for promotional purposes by the club for some time and is not accessible to any current employees.

"The club does not condone the views expressed and has since had this account removed."

It comes at a time when relations between the club and supporters couldn’t be worse, with a number of protests against the club’s owners having taken place since the end of last season that saw their final Championship match cancelled due to a pitch invasion.

Chairman Karl Oyston is set to return to the club to take over the day-to-ay running after serving a six-week ban from the Football Association for calling a supporter “a retard” during a foul-mouthed text-message exchange last season.
