Six players were sent off during a fractious night in the Championship, four of the dismissals coming at the KC Stadium where Hull's 2-0 victory over Burnley was reduced to nine-a-side for the final 13 minutes.

In the space of seven minutes, Hull's Jay-Jay Okocha and Caleb Folan and the Burnley pair of Joey Gudjonsson and Steven Caldwell were sent off by Mike Riley. Okocha was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident with Gudjonsson. Frazier Campbell and Richard Garcia scored Hull's goals.

West Bromwich Albion took advantage of Jermaine Johnson's harsh dismissal to snatch a winner four minutes into injury time at Hillsborough and tighten the race for the automatic promotion places. Kevin Phillips scored the only goal to leave the top four separated by five points.

Watford moved up to second, but missed the chance to close the gap on Bristol City after Jamie Cureton equalised for Norwich nine minutes from time at Vicarage Road and made it four successive draws for Aidy Boothroyd's side. Danny Shittu's early header had given Watford the lead. "I'll go home and shout into my pillow," Boothroyd said.

Southampton's Gregory Vignal was sent off in their 2-2 draw with Wolves before Jason Euell's last-minute goal earned a point for 10-man Saints.
