Leeds United latest news: Fabio Cannavaro 'in frame' to replace Steve Evans
World Cup winner being considered as replacement for current Elland Road manager
Fabio Cannavaro is being considered as a potential replacement for current Leeds United manager Steve Evans, according to reports.
Owner Massimo Cellino is understood to be considering dismissing Evans with the Italian unimpressed with the lack of progress seen under the current manager since appointing him in October. The club currently lie 13th in the Championship.
Evans, who replaced Uwe Rosler, is on a rolling contract which will make it simple for Cellino to dismiss the coach.
Cannavaro, a World Cup winner with Italy, would certainly bring prestige to the role, however he lacks experience. Since ending his playing career, which saw him feature for Parma, Juventus and Real Madrid, the 42-year-old has coach Al-Ahli Club of Dubai, Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande and Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.
A change of manager at Leeds would be nothing new in the Cellino era. The Italian owner has sacked Brian McDermott, Dave Hockaday, Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn and Rosler since taking charge in early 2014. It is one of the reasons supporters are unhappy with their Italian owner - a feeling that has inspired recent demonstrations around Elland Road.
