Megson aims to thwart Wolves

The West Brom manager Gary Megson takes his side into the Black Country derby against Wolves tonight hoping for revenge. The Baggies, at the time on course for a place in the First Division play-offs, were soundly beaten 3-1 in a one-sided match at Molineux last March, although Wolves only went on to finish 12th.

Now Dave Jones' men will go top of the division again if they beat their old rivals at The Hawthorns and chalk up their seventh win from eight away games this season.

Megson said: "People say derby games are just another three points, but I don't care what anybody else says – they are different. They are always massive games.

"We didn't play our last game with Wolves like it was a derby game, but our team has changed immeasurably since then and I will expect a much, much better performance."

The Baggies defender Des Lyttle will return after missing the 2-0 defeat by Norwich last Friday. Ruel Fox is expected to start on the bench as he continues his fight for a first-team place following a rib injury.

Albion are to step up their attempt to sign the Sunderland striker Danny Dichio, who is still recovering from a broken foot suffered during his loan spell at The Hawthorns. Following a meeting with chairman Paul Thompson and chief executive John Wile, Megson said the club would be increasing their initial offer, believed to be £750,000, to £1m.

Wolves are also chasing an injured loan striker – Kenny Miller – who has a broken collarbone. Rangers chairman David Murray has confirmed the Molineux club are hoping to extend Miller's loan spell until the end of the season.

Jones has no fresh injury worries for tonight, although he has hinted changes could be made to his starting line-up with Cedric Roussel standing by. Defender Ludovic Pollet has returned to light training after starting his recovery from a badly sprained ankle, but will not be in contention.
