Northampton have been promoted to League One after beating Exeter 4-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley.

Northampton put the result beyond doubt with a fourth goal in the 89th minute. Andy Williams produced a fine finish from close range to get his name on the scoresheet just one minute after coming off the bench to seal a 4-0 victory.

Man of the match Morton said his side had caused a major upset to win promotion via the play-offs.

“It couldn’t have gone any better really, as a team we’ve come here and again played out of our skin and managed to get the win and now we’re in League One,” Morton told Sky Sports. “We always come with belief. We knew we were a match for any team in this league.

“Exeter finished above us (in the table) and we’ve come here and no-one gave us a chance in the whole of the play-offs. We’ve given two brilliant performances and obviously to get three goals over the three (play-off) games is, on a personal note, unbelievable.”
