Round-up: Saints on song as Sven salutes Foxes

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins was pleased with his team's ability to adapt after they produced a strong second-half performance at St Mary's to defeat Watford 4-0 on Saturday.

"We weren't at the races [in the] first half in respect of being able to play out," Adkins admitted, even though his side went into the interval 1-0 up, courtesy of Rickie Lambert's penalty.

"We changed the shape round just before half-time because we didn't have a grip of the game. And the second half we demonstrated our level of fitness and we demonstrated that we can pass," Adkins added. "Some of the play was great."

Lambert struck again from the spot in the 55th minute before late goals from Guly do Prado and Lee Holmes ensured Southampton remained on top of the table.

Sven Goran Eriksson celebrated his first anniversary in charge of Leicester City with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Derby County. "It was probably our best performance of the season," said the Swede, whose team prevailed thanks to goals from David Nugent, Darius Vassell and substitutes Jeffrey Schlupp and Lloyd Dyer. "It is particularly good to see the likes of Schlupp and Dyer come on and show hunger."

Sam Allardyce rued his West Ham side's "shocking defending" after they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Crystal Palace. Darren Ambrose and Glenn Murray scored for the hosts, with both goals stemming from lapses in West Ham's back four. "It was shocking defending which stopped us winning the game," Allardyce said.

"I was pleased with the amount of chances we created and we would like to take those performances into Upton Park," he added. "[But] the unfortunate thing was that we've never looked like conceding two goals away from home this season."

Kevin Nolan equalised Ambrose's opener before a late header from John Carew levelled Murray's effort.
