Austria captain Christian Fuchs has announced his retirement from international football following the team's exit from Euro 2016.

The Leicester defender announced in a video on his Facebook page that the 78th cap he won in the team's defeat to Iceland in their final Group F match would be his last.

"I want to let you know that the game against Iceland was my last in red-white-red," said the 30-year-old.

"I am very proud of the 10 years that I have spent with the national team. I did everything with passion and, as I said, I am very, very proud."

Fuchs joined Leicester from Schalke at the start of last season, playing a key role in their remarkable Premier League title triumph.

Austria disappointed in France, finishing bottom of their pool with just one point from three games.
