Gareth Bale has hailed Wales’s performance in the 3-0 victory over Russia as “the best I’ve ever been involved in” after helping to secure top spot in Euro 2016 Group B, beating England to first place courtesy of the comfortable victory in Toulouse.

Bale scored the third goal to complete the impressive victory which sees Wales through to the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time. With Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey opening the scoring and Swansea defender Neil Taylor doubling the lead, Bale was on hand to score for the third successive Euro 2016 match.

With England failing to beat Slovakia, Wales beat their rivals to top spot in Group B, and will now play one of the third-placed teams in Group A, C or D in Saturday’s quarter-final at Parc des Princes in Saturday.

"It's incredible. It's a dream for all of us. What an amazing way to do it," Bale said after the match.

"We knew everything was on this game. It was in our own hands and we said to go out there, enjoy ourselves.

"The performance was probably the best I've ever been involved in since I've been here. And what support."

After topping their qualifying group for Euro 2016, Wales’s form has continued to impress in France and, barring their disappointing defeat by England, Chris Coleman’s side have shown signs that business across The Channel is not over just yet with a last-16 appearance.

For Bale, he feels that team have achieved exactly what they set out to do, and the Real Madrid forward believes that the side can go even further if they continue to play with their confident, attacking manner.

"We started very well; we didn't feel too nervous at the start. We were very confident and to top the group, what more can you ask?" Bale added.

"We said we didn't want to come here and just make up the numbers and to win the group, we can't do any more than that.

"Now we look forward to who we've got next."
