Jose Mourinho offered job by Syrian FA amid Manchester United interest

Jose Mourinho has been inundated with job offers since he was sacked by Chelsea in December.

There was an offer from the 'worst club in the world', Roma and Valencia have been linked, as have numerous clubs in his native Portugal.

Of course, the Manchester United link continues to hang over the heads of the 53-year-old and the current Old Trafford boss, Louis van Gaal.

Should that job never come, however, Mourinho can take solace in the fact that he is an extremely wanted man.

The latest side to join the long queue for Mourinho comes from the Middle East, where the Syrian Football Association have invited Mourinho to take charge of the national team.

The Qaison Eagles are currently ranked 123rd in the world, out of 208, with their highest ranking of 78 coming way back in 1993.

In a letter, written in Spanish to super agent Jorge Mendes and his company Gestifute, the Syrian FA asks Mourinho to help the team qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history."

"After a meeting between the president of the Syrian Football Federation; Salahuddin Ramadan, the vice-president of the Syrian Union Chairman of the national teams, the director of the first team, Fadi Dabbas and secretary-general of the Syrian Football Federation Qutaiba al-Rifaiit, it was agreed to send a formal offer to the agency of the coach Jose Mourinho to train the Syrian national football team," read the post on their Facebook page.

The translated and edited version of the letter reads:

Dear Gestifute

We are getting in touch to make you aware of our interest in making an official offer to sign Jose Mourinho as the new manager of the Syrian national team, which has just qualified for the third phase of the Asian qualifying competition for the World Cup in Russia 2018.

The Syrian national team finished second in group E of the second phase, just behind Japan gaining 18 points with six wins from eight games, losing only the two against Japan. The draw for this phase will be made on April 12 according to the Fifa rankings that will be published on April 7 (in which Syria will be ranked 123rd in the world).

Until then, we would like you to know that we are open to negotiate with you the conditions required to sign Mourinho after both sides come to an agreement.

It is important for football in this country, at this time, to sign a world class coach to help us reach the World Cup for the first time in our history.

We send our best wishes and await your response to move forward with negotiations.
