Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and Liverpool striker Danny Ings to miss England 'get-together'

The injured pair are not understood to be on Roy Hodgson's guest list

Luke Shaw and Danny Ings are not expected to attend England's winter get-together, which takes place at St George's Park on Thursday.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal gave Shaw hope that he could play again this season after naming him in his Europa League squad.

But the United left-back is not expected to attend a gathering of around 40 England players at the National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent on Thursday.

The Football Association (FA) insists the absence of any player from the mid-winter meeting, which was organised to plug the four-month gap between international fixtures, does not mean they will definitely miss out on Roy Hodgson's Euro 2016 squad, but given the seriousness of his double leg-break last September, it would be hard for the 20-year-old to make the cut.

Danny Ings, who made his England debut last October against Lithuania, is out for the season after rupturing knee ligaments during Jurgen Klopp's first training session in charge of Liverpool and is also not thought to be attending the meeting.

Arsenal duo Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere are expected to travel to Burton as they are on the mend following their long-term knee and leg injuries.

In-form Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster is also understood to be attending the meeting on Thursday following his recovery from a knee injury.

The get together is expected to take place in the evening after the players have trained with their respective clubs.

Roy Hodgson still believes Rooney will be key at Euro 2016

Hodgson and his staff will review England's performances in their final two games of 2015 - against Spain and France - before discussing plans for Euro 2016.

A smaller squad of around 23 will convene next month when England play friendlies in Germany and at home to Holland.
