Scott Carson has been called into the England squad for tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales after Ben Foster was ruled out with a throat infection.

Foster was struggling with the complaint yesterday but England's medical staff decided to leave it overnight before making a final decision on his fitness.

However, there has been no improvement and Foster has now been released back to Birmingham.

Carson has been selected ahead of Fulham's David Stockdale as England's third-choice keeper, behind Joe Hart and Robert Green.

The 25-year-old will always be remembered for being pitched into the make-or-break Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia at Wembley just days after making his international debut.

Unfortunately, a calamitous blunder contributed to Croatia's 3-2 win, since when Carson has appeared just once for his country, in a friendly win over Germany in Berlin in November 2008.
